As Budnitz(2016) pointed out that balancing the risk profile is important to improve the safety of nuclear power plants. This paper presents a methodology for balancing the seismic risk profile of nuclear power plants using portfolio theory used in financial engineering. The methodology is applied to a nuclear power plant model, and it is shown that uncertainty of core damage frequency can be reduced by balancing the risk profile.
