Analytical focuses on low abundance long-lived radionuclides such as selenium-79 due to environmental safety implications and reduction of radiation exposure. This research developed a microfluidic solvent extraction system for selenium separation and detection. Formation of selenium complex 4,5- benzopiazselenol (BPS) and microscale extraction of BPS in a fabricated hydrophobic-hydrophilic patterned microfluidic chip was achieved.
