[2N04] Development of Radioactive source identification by 4π Compton gamma imaging
(2)Visualization of location and intensity of a hidden radioactive source by synthesis of 3D-reconstructed Compton and visible light camera images
Keywords:4π Compton gamma imaging, Image synthesis, Augmented reality
Compton camera systems have been developed for the identification of radioactive sources to improve nuclear security. We have developed a system that synthesizes three-dimensional imaged radioactive source information by 4π Compton gamma imaging into visible light camera images attached to the Compton camera for efficient detection. We conducted experiments using a 137Cs radiation source, and we synthesized an image of the estimated direction and intensity of the radiation source at a specific distance from the detector. We confirmed that the present system supports the detection of the hidden source by comparing the estimated three-dimensional image of the source information to the visible light camera image even when the sources are surrounded by a wall.
