[2I18] Development of nondestructive identification method by using high-energy X-ray CT for disposal-restricted materials in radioactive waste containers
Keywords:Waste characterization, Nondestructive testing, High-energy X-ray CT, Disposal-restricted material
For disposal of low-level radioactive wastes which have generated in the past and have been stored, materials which limited the amount by waste acceptance criteria of a disposal facility must be separated from the wastes if they are contained with unacceptable amount. These disposal-restricted materials can be identified effectively by properly utilize a nondestructive testing technique with high-energy X ray for waste containers. We performed measurements of high-energy X-ray CT for simulated wastes, which containing aluminum, batteries, combustibles, lead, and mercury as disposal-restricted materials, in containers with an industrial CT scanner. In the presentation, we report the results of development on the identification methods of such materials based on the analyses of gray values in CT images and shape in 3D volume.
