Driving rains inundated western Japan in July, 2018 during the so-called heavy rain event of July 2018. Great damage was caused by landslides and flooding in riverine areas. For heavy rain disaster damage mitigation and prevention in the stricken area, the authors clarified damage factors and elucidated dangerous areas. Conducing land use examinations and performing disaster prevention maintenance can produce safer living environments. Therefore, for Mihara in Hiroshima Prefecture, where severe damage resulted from heavy rains, we clarified factors affecting building damage based on data of heavy rain effects. Visualization of actual situations of building damage by production of a damage distribution map yielded knowledge supporting future land use and disaster prevention plans.
