The purpose of this study was to clarify the characteristics of the dynamic changes of the landscape structure in the suburbs of a regional city. We took Matsuyama City as our research site and described the transformation of landscape from the modern era to the present day, using topographical maps, aerial photographs, and other historical documents. As a result, it was found that there existed a transitional land use patterns including agricultural land and vacant land in the process of urbanization in the agricultural land units of rural origin. Such patterns were found to be distributed in concentric circles in the Yodo district and in the southern lowland direction in the Kume district, suggesting that they differ depending on the natural conditions and the history of infrastructure and facility development.
