[E-11-14] The Earth's coda correlation wavefield: Rise of the new paradigm and recent advances

In seismology, progress in imaging the Earth's deepest shells has been impeded by the lack of geometric coverage of body waves from large earthquakes. In seeking the ways forward, global seismologists started experimenting with seismograms recorded many hours after the first arrivals of body-waves. This contributed to the rise of a new paradigm – the correlation wavefield, the focus of my talk. The correlation wavefield is a powerful way to study Earth's deep structure, including its innermost shell – the inner core. As I hope to demonstrate in my review, the coda correlation studies may play a central role in global and planetary seismology in the coming decades.
