Protists emerged on Earth during the Precambrian era and have evolved along Geologic time. Recent molecular analyses and culturing experiments on living marine protists make remarkable progress and give us new findings, whereas the integration of the knowledge from these biological studies and that of earth sciences is indispensable as the next step. We, therefore, propose a session with a view to integrating the information from biological and paleontological approaches. We welcome a wide variety of presentations, from paleontological studies on fossils to biological studies on living protists.
