[ACG31-10] Impacts of human activities and climate change on water and nutrient transport in central Japan: potential directions for adaptation strategies

To understand the threshold for sustainable ocean productivity, it is necessary to determine where and to what extent the nutrients used by primary production in each coastal area are being supplied. Furthermore, in order to assess the impact of recent global warming and human activities, it is vital to know the current status and location in consideration of long-term monitoring data. In this study, we analyzed terrestrial and coastal monitoring data at around 100 sites over the past 20-30 years, using Toyama, located in the snow-covered region of central Japan, as a model area. The results showed that the terrestrial water cycle (rivers and groundwater) and nutrient transport from land to sea are well responses to climate change and human activities and also the existence of a turning point in these trends/processes. In this presentation, we will present (1) specific changes in water and nutrient transport under the influence of climate change and human activities and (2) preliminary results of adaptation strategies to these changes and experimental effects.
