[A-CG34] Projection and detection of global environmental change

Anthropogenic forcings on the global environment are expected to cause intensification of extreme events, such as sea-level rise, hurricanes and typhoons, ocean acidification, and deoxygenation, as well as regional-scale ecosystem changes. Under the international project CMIP6, Earth System modeling groups across the world performed simulations and published projection data, which made invaluable contributions to the 6th IPCC assessment report (AR6) published in August 2021, which attracted much attention from the general public and policymakers. Other than CMIP6, new types of studies, such as event attribution, coupling of socio-economic processes and Earth system dynamics, and realistic high resolution modeling advocating "Digital Twin Earth" are emerging in the field of global change predictions and projections. In addition, analysis of observational data is becoming increasingly important for assessing the credibility of model projections of the global environment. Interactions and collaborations beyond the boundaries of conventional scientific disciplines are desired for dealing with the issue of global changes and their societal impacts. This session hosts the latest research findings with a view to modeling global-to-regional projections and interdisciplinary collaborations including those with social sciences. Presentations on the direction of model development for the upcoming CMIP7, and ultra-high-resolution modeling that extends the frontiers further, are also welcome.
