[AAS04-06] Suita MP-PAWR: Initial observation results after upgrade from single-polarized to dual-polarized phased array weather radar

Phased-array weather radar (PAWR) is a key technology to observe severe phenomena such as torrential rain with high spatiotemporal resolutions. PAWR completes a three-dimensional volume scan in 30 seconds by using fan transmission beams and pencil reception beams with phased-array and digital beamforming technologies. After the 10-years operation, the first single-polarized PAWR installed at Osaka University Suita campus was replaced by a dual-polarized multi-parameter PAWR (MP-PAWR) of Toshiba in December 2022. Then, the Suita MP-PAWR has been in operation since July 2023. This presentation will show the introduction of Suita MP-PAWR and several case studies from the initial operation.
