Typhoon Mitak, which affected the Korean Peninsula on September 28, 2019, is a typhoon that unusually affected Korea in October, following Chaba in 2016 and Kong-rey in 2018. Typhoon Mitak is a typical rain typhoon, and the hourly rainfall lightly overwhelmed the worst rain typhoon ever, Rusa. Typhoon Mitak was recorded as a case in which PM10 appeared at a 'bad' level in the Midwest, such as Seoul, Incheon, southern Gyeonggi, and Chungnam before the typhoon's impact, and it was recorded that the air condition was so bad that the view was cloudy that the view was particularly in Incheon, Gyeonggi, and Chungnam. This is different from the general perception that air quality will be good during the typhoon period, and a number of prior studies have already been conducted abroad related to the occurrence of high concentration air pollution during the typhoon period. Therefore, Typhoon Mitak can be said to be a representative recent case in Korea related to this. In this study, the high-concentration PM10 phenomenon that occurred in Typhoon Mitak was analyzed. In particular, by comparing the concentration of PM10 by region and weather data at the same time, although it is the period of typhoon impact, a phenomenon different from the general concept was introduced. This study applied the concept of a disaster prevention system for high-concentration air pollution during typhoons, which was not generally considered, focusing on providing risk information on air pollution during typhoon impacts in advance, and calculated the air pollution risk index considering local vulnerabilities based on the concept of impact forecast.
This study introduces a risk calculation system based on the recently applied impact forecast and is expected to be useful as a response to the climate crisis against typhoons on the Korean Peninsula that have introduced a new concept.
