[ACG47-05] Challenges in realizing OneArgo and the importance of collaboration with other observations (Discussion)
Keywords:Ocean Observation, Research infrastructure
In Japan, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology and Japan Meteorological Agency are playing a central role in the deployment and operation of Argo. Recently, not only analyzing in the ocean using Argo data being provided globally from Argo data center, but the number of research projects that have recently deployed Argo floats through research funds and that wish to be included in the Argo data flow, is increasing. In terms of technological development, the development of new sensors and floats is also being promoted and considered, and Argo is recognized as an indispensable research platform that contributes to the acceleration of Research and Development.
OneArgo has been published in “Fundamental concepts for promoting large scientific research projects” (Roadmap 2023) led by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). While it is expected that the OneArgo will be accelerated as one of a big ocean science in the future, it is also necessary to urgently consider how to promote OneArgo and link it to other fields in Japan with limited resources. We would like to share information on these situations and discuss the state of ocean observation not only with senior researchers but also with young researchers.
