Introduction
In recent years, urban renewal by repurposing road space has been attracting attention in Japan. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has been developing legislation to address social needs for the utilization of road space. Additionally, sidewalk cafes are attracting attention.

Purpose and Method
The purpose of this study is to analyze the current status and issues of sidewalk cafes and to gain knowledge for their utilization in Japan. Furthermore, we aim to clarify how users' psychology and behavior when using sidewalk cafes are related to the spatial configuration of sidewalk cafes. Compared to indoor stores, sidewalk cafes are characterized by their openness, unclear spatial boundaries, and susceptibility to the influence of the surrounding environment. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the line of sight and the surrounding public space, and to clarify the impact of the "seeing/being seen relationship" on users.

Analysis
This study investigates the factors that influence people's use of open spaces. The use of seats at a rest area in public space at Sakurai Station in Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture, be observed by video survey in November 2022 and September 2023. The observation period is set to take into account changes in temperature and the regional characteristic that tourists increase in autumn. The observation results will be input into GIS, and a utilization potential map of the open space will be created using the spatial interpolation function of GIS. Based on the results of the utilization potential map, factors that increase or inhibit utilization potential were examined. As a result, it was confirmed that the utilization rate of seats adjacent to roads and entrances was low, and that installation of partitions such as plantings be a method of improving the utilization rate.

Conclusion
We investigated the usage rate of sidewalk cafes, focusing on the relationship between peripheral factors and "seeing/being seen. The results showed that the utilization rate of seats near the street and near doorways was low, but the installation of partitions, such as plantings, improve the utilization rate.
