[O08-P36] Light path comparison of measurements and calculation based on temperatures when inferior mirage is seen
Keywords:Air reflective index, Total reflection, Verification experiment
The inferior mirage is a phenomenon in which an inverted image appears in summer, as if there were water on the ground.
This is a mirage which is caused by light inflection due to temperature differences.
We thought that inferior mirage is mainly caused by the total reflection of light.
In our experiment, we measured the temperature in places where we could see inferior mirages, such as on a long, straight road and on the balcony of a school building.
In the resulting two measurements, the former had distortions of 500%, and the latter had distortions of 30%.
We also carried out an experiment in which the distortions in measurement were reduced through the usage of iron plates.
We report on comparing the result of the measurements in this experiment with the result of calculation based on the temperatures of the iron plates.
