At Hamana river in Kosai city, Shizuoka pref., there is characteristic water flowing in local, whose velocity changes drastically and, along with that, two types of whirlpools occur, one is small scale and the other is medium scale. In this research, focusing on medium scale whirlpool, we attempted elucidating the mechanism of that occurrence. Firstly, we clarified the change of flowing velocity and tide level for 24 hours on site. Secondly, based on the result of on-site research, we created a waterway model and conducted a reproduction experiment. And finally, we executed the computer simulation for validation checking. These results suggest that medium scale whirlpools are occurs due to the delay in tidal level transmission caused by narrowing of the water channel.
