[PEM15-05] SuperDARN – overview, latest achievements, recent progress and future plans
キーワード:SuperDARN、ionosphere、upper atmosphere、high- and mid-latitudes
The Super Dual Auroral Radar Network (SuperDARN) consists of more than 35 SuperDARN radars in both hemispheres, covering a geomagnetic latitude range of approximately 40 to 90 degrees. It can study the ionospheric dynamics due to the disturbances from upward (magnetospheric) and downward (thermospheric, atmospheric, and even ground/sea surface). Increases in solar activity in the past few years demonstrate the potential of SuperDARN as a powerful tool for studying ionospheric dynamics at high- and mid-latitudes. In addition, recent advances in the SuperDARN network include the extension of the SuperDARN field of view to lower latitudes and even up to the equatorial region in the near future and the implementation of imaging capabilities to improve spatial/temporal resolution of the radar data. This paper presents an overview of the achievements, recent progress, and plans (short and long-term) for the SuperDARN network, focusing on Japanese SuperDARN activity.
