[U01-05] Intergovernmental Action on Climate and the Role of Geoscience
★Invited Papers
キーワード:Climate policy, Global cooperation, Science ethics, Climate solutions
Geoscience has been at the forefront of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) since its inception. After all, it was the power of geoscience that first discovered the rapid acceleration of global warming and voiced the need for an international response.
AGU has engaged directly with the UNFCCC since the Conference of Parties (COP26) in Glasgow and, most recently, at COP28 in Dubai. AGU continues to strongly advocate for geoscience in the UNFCCC processes by convening high-level science panels, partnering with multilateral organizations, and engaging directly with negotiators on science-informed solutions.
This presentation will showcase how the geoscience community continues to lead on climate action, from weighing the ethics of climate interventions to fueling net zero innovations, like AGU's net zero energy headquarter buidling.
