[3C5-OS-23b-02] Argument for Emerging Cognition to Overcome Frame Problem

〇Go Nishimura1, Suwa Masaki1 (1. Keio University)

Keywords:AI, emergence, Phenomenology, field work, becoming

In contrast to the rapid growth of AI, there has been few argument about the “frame problem”. No progress has been made to overcome the hard problem so far. On the other hand, people are able to overcome in their daily lives. In order to obtain insight from daily experiences and thereby find how to tackle the problem, we base our arguments on discussions about what has happened to the first author’s cognition in the fieldwork in Tamagawa River, which were opportunities to encounter situations where new meanings and actions emerged in a situated manner. Three types of actions or abilities played important roles when new meanings and actions emerged. We argue that these are three aspects of “emerging cognition”, which makes new meanings and actions emerge through taking people to a brand-new cognitive world and encouraging our behavior to be structured in ways triggered by outstanding and accidental events.
