Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) represent an attractive photovoltaic technology, and initially developed on glass substrates. The low-cost, lightweight, and flexible plastic substrates have been investigated for the fabrication of DSSC electrodes. A major challenge for making DSSCs on flexible plastic substrates is the temperature limitation in producing working electrode, since the electrode consists of TiO2 based materials, which need high temperature calcination at around 450 C. In the present work, self-standing, mechanically flexible nanofiber mat of silica suitable for application in DSSC as thermally stable lightweight substrate has been prepared by the electrospinning method, and covered by a conductive layer of ITO.
