For the first time, in this work we monolithically integrate a passive polarization converter with an active multiple-quantum-well (MQW) based polarization dependent-phase shifter. This integration requires only a single re-growth step by the butt-joint technique. We have achieved pi-polarization rotation on the Poincare sphere by forward current injection. Thus experimentally demonstrating its polarization-controlling ability.
