[6p-A410-9] Analysis of multi mode arbitrary profile Trench-Assisted Fiber for Broadband
Applications
Keywords:Bend Loss, Multi mode, optical power confinement
In this paper, we have designed multi- mode trench-assisted optical fibers with low bending loss and tightly confinement optical power. The optimized design parameters are obtained by introducing trench between inner cladding and outer cladding layer. We have studied the effect of different trench parameters on effective mode field diameter, optical power and field distribution in different modes of optical fiber, theoretically. The analysis shows that the relative refractive index difference in trench affects the properties of mode and power confinement in optical fiber for broadband applications. We have proposed a multi-mode trench-assisted fiber for tightly optical power confinement at 1550 nm wavelength. The multi-mode deep trench profile illustrates the advantages of the bend insensitive fiber for broadband applications. We have studied the effect of different trench parameters on mode field diameter and optical field distribution in modes of the optical fiber, theoretically. Based on the numerical analysis, it can be observed that two important properties such as bending loss and mode field diameter are sensitive to separation from the core but insensitive to trench width. On the other hand if the trench is placed near to the core then both MFD and bend loss decreases due to lower index contrast of trench, when trench move away from core region, the MFD increases and supporting multi-mode operation. The designed TA-F has MFD of about 10 μm at 1550 nm wavelength, as well as low bending losses. Due to low bending loss in TA-F, it can be used efficiently for broadband applications. It can show potential application in the field of wavelength division multiplexing throughout the entire spectrum range of 1.3 µm to 1.6 µm wavelengths.
