[13a-D209-1] Research of high brightness and high current Liquid metal Electron Emitter
Keywords:electron emitter, liquid metal, surface tension
We have successfully installed lanthanum hydride in a substantially cylindrical sheath and operated it as an electron emitter. The operating temperature is about 1200 ° C to 1350 ° C and the lanthanum hydride is liquefied. The sheath is a solid metal or metal compound, and the lanthanum hydride liquid forms an electron emission surface which is substantially flat due to surface tension and capillary action on the lower surface of the inner cylinder. The work function is about 2.1 eV. A large current of 10 A / cm2 can be generated.
