It has been a difficult task to discriminate between structural isomers with the same functional group on metal oxide surfaces. On the other hand, we have recently shown that the structural isomers of linear ketones with carbon numbers 7-11 are selectively oxidized on the surface of zinc oxide nanowires. In this study, the oxidation process of ketones was estimated by modulating the gas-phase adsorption conditions of linear ketones with a focus on vapor concentration and confirming the oxidation progress by IR, and the selectivity mechanism of the oxidation reaction was elucidated.
