LIPSS formation evolution was observed on sidewalls of a microhole drilled in an optical fiber, by varying the pulse number to N = 100, 500, 1000, and 10 000 pulses.
At N = 500, the surface of the hole was rough, which comes from the accumulation of pulses to change the initial structure. At N = 1000, some nano-periodic ripples were observed on the rough surfaces. Finally, at N = 10 000, LIPSS were generated mostly through the whole microhole.
LIPSS started to form around 1000 pulses on the rough surface because of the interaction of the incident light and free electrons to excite surface plasmon polaritons. Future research will be conducted in order to control the LIPSS formation better on the surface of microhole.
