[17a-P09-1] Mechanical stimulus on cardiac cell clusters with feedback loop
Keywords:real-time feedback, cardiac cell, mechanical stimulus
Synchronization of the heart from single cells is one of enigmatic phenomena observed in biology. To understand the mechanism of heart synchronization, it requires a unified understanding from the cell to the whole heart, physical properties of single cells and their interactions. Furthermore, recent studies have elucidated the direct influence of physical deformations on the synchronization. We have developed a system to apply artificial physical deformation on a cardiac cell cluster in vitro. Preliminary experiments showed that periodic deformation in time changed the cluster shape and ceased or differed the phase of its intrinsic beat. Therefore, we upgraded a system with a real-time feedback controls to apply stimulus in response to the intrinsic beats. We will discuss the results of the variations of the phase differences between artificial stimuli and rhythmically intrinsic beats.
