▲ [24p-D214-6] Simulation on Influence of Sidewall Roughness in Ring-Resonator-Type Device for Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording
キーワード:heat-assisted magnetic recording, ring resonator, near-field light
Heat-assisted magnetic recording has been introduced to improve the magnetic recording density. A near-field transducer (NFT) forms a light spot that can heat the recording medium locally to reduce its coercivity and to record marks with several tens of nanometers in size. Traditional NFT usually consisted of apertures or antennas with a separated light source, which led to large energy loss. The authors’ team has proposed a device in which a metal nano-antenna as the NFT is attached to a semiconductor ring resonator as an integrated light source. When electric current is injected to the ring resonator, it acts as a laser with whispering gallery mode. However, in actual manufacturing process, the sidewall of the ring resonator becomes rough due to the nonuniformity of etching. In this study, the sidewall roughness of the ring resonator was simulated to figure out its influence on the performance of the device. As the sidewall of the ring resonator became rougher, the quality factor decreased but normalized energy density increased.
