In this work, pellets of Ti-Ni alloys were fabricated by powder metallurgy technique. The powders were mixed with varying Ni composition then compacted and sintered. Under an optimised condition the resulting pellets were rather dense. The pellets were then polished then anodized for anodic film formation. The growth of the anodic film was studied as a function of the alloying composition, phases and crystallinity. In an electrolyte comprising of fluoride ions, the anodic film on diluted Ti-Ni alloys, appeared to have nanotubular structure with nanotubes diameter ranges from 80-100 nm. The nanotubes were mostly titanium dioxide with nickel presence as defects (as dopants). The doped titanium dioxide film was then tested for its photocatalytic properties whereby under light illumination it was found to be able to reduce chromium(VI) to chromium(III) totally. Chromium(VI) removal from contaminated wastewater by this technique is simple and thus is seen to have important industrial application especially for water treatment purposes.
