High entropy alloys (HEAs) exhibit excellent properties such as high strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and superior high-temperature stability, which were manufactured using various methods such as casting, powder metallurgy, as well as coating, spraying, sputtering, etc.
In this study, the effect of in-situ TiC formed during the sintering process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of NbTaVTi HEA was investigated. The diffusion of carbon from the graphite mold and its influence on the formation of TiC, as well as the examination of how the size and distribution of TiC influence the microstructure and mechanical properties, have been investigated. The TiC-reinforced NbTaVTi HEA has a BCC phase microstructure and an FCC phase of TiC and exhibits a relatively high yield strength of 1.6 GPa with an elongation of 42% at 800℃. These exceptional performances of in-situ TiC-reinforced HEA enable it to be a very promising material for high-temperature applications
