[15P-T17-01] Enhancing Apatite Forming Ability of Sulfuric Acid Treated Zr-Ti Alloys by Oxygen Plasma or UV
Keywords:Zr-Ti alloy, apatite-forming ability, apatite, oxygen plasma treatment, UV treatment
Zirconium-titanium (Zr-Ti) binary alloys have good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility, and a way to improve biocompatibility is needed. In this study, we formed micropores on the surface of the Zr-Ti alloys by sulfuric acid aqueous solution treatment. However, the Zr-Ti alloys cannot combine with apatite after this process, therefore, the O2 plasma or UV treatment was carried out to give the apatite-forming ability to sulfuric acid-treated Zr-Ti alloys. Based on the simulated body fluid (SBF) [1], we modified SBF (m-SBF) by removing interfering ions and changing ion concentrations. After 1-day m-SBF soaking, the apatite was formed in the micropores of the O2 plasma or UV-treated Zr-Ti alloys, as a comparison, the Zr-Ti alloys without O2 plasma or UV treatment cannot form apatite on the surface.
