Keywords:Neutron source

We represent a 3.95 MeV linac based compact neutron source, consisting of tungsten bremsstrahlung converter and beryllium photoneutron target. The beryllium target, having an especially small threshold energy for photoneutron production, is combined with a graphite reflector, a boric acid resin layer for neutron shielding, a lead layer for gamma-ray shielding, and a polyethylene layer as the neutron moderator. The mobility of this compact neutron source allows us variety of applications such as on-site moisture inspection of industrial or societal infrastructures, for example concrete structures, by detection of thermal neutron backscatter.
