[3C02] Development of RBWR for Long-lived Transuranium Elements Burner
(11)Investigation of Flow Integrity of Fuel Assembly Components
Keywords:RBWR, Fuel Assembly, Fuel Spacer, Flow-induced Vibration
One of the RBWR cores, the RBWR-TB2, was designed to be a burner of transuranium elements (TRUs), similar to sodium fast reactors. As the next step, fuel assemblies that ensure the feasibility of the RBWR-TB2 must be developed. Fuel assemblies consist of fuel rods, spacers, a channel box, a lower tie plate and an upper tie plate. We fabricated trial products of lower and upper tie plates, and spacers. Two phase flow tests were conducted to verify functions and fabrication accuracy of the components. Flow-induced vibration of the fuel rods was not intense compared to that of the BWR. We concluded that our newly designed fuel assembly could be fabricated with the desired design specifications and it was feasible as a commercial product.
