[3I04] Development of Glass Composite Wasteforms for Fukushima Wastes
(II) Wasteforms for Zeolite
Keywords:vitrification, low melting glass, adsorbent
The remediation of the Fukushima site has produced a large volume of spent adsorbents. These adsorbents are used in Hitachi Ltd. High Performance Advanced Liquid Processing System to remove caesium and strontium from the effluent cooling water. Due to volatilisation concerns a low temperature immobilisation process is sought to permanently dispose these spent adsorbents. To this end Imperial College London is collaborating with Hitachi Ltd. to design an immobilisation process using low melting temperature glass compositions to form durable Glass Composite Material waste forms at a maximum temperature of 600°C.
