[2O20] Tungsten material characterization by laser ultrasonics
Keywords:Tungsten, Laser Ultrasonics, In-situ diagnostic
Laser ultrasonics is a non-contact and non-destructive technique to generate and detect elastic waves in materials. The method can be used to identify surface breaking cracks, measure changes in thickness, or detect changes in materials' mechanical properties. Such capabilities make it attractive for use as an in-situ material monitoring diagnositc in hostile fusion environment. This contribution introduces our recent work on applying laser ultrasonics to characterize advanced tungsten materials and tungsten components for use in nuclear fusion.
