Keywords:Nuclear fuel debris, Uranium dioxide, Porosity, Compressive strength, Finite element analysis, Image-based modeling

The finite element analyses were carried out to evaluate the effect of porosity on the compressive strength of fuel debris. Serial sectioning images of cast material and the material property of uranium dioxide were used. By simulating various types of porosity, we found that the compressive strength was predictable from the pore volume fraction.
