[1E04] Study on FCM fuel for light water reactors with intensive safety and proliferation resistance
Keywords:proliferation resistance, Accident Tolerant fuel, FCM fuel, Material attractiveness
The objectives of this study is to quantitatively evaluate the feasibility of light water reactor loaded with, one of the Accident Tolerant Fuel types, Fully Ceramic Microencapsulated (FCM) fuel concerning intensive safety and proliferation resistance. The result gained from maximum burnup and the various safety reactivity coefficients were evaluated with parameters of the enrichment of U, packing fraction, kernel diameter and the Am doping fraction. Furthermore, due to the higher chemical stability and Pu decay heat generation in its spent fuel, it was clarified that the material attractiveness, one of the element of the proliferation resistance, of FCM fuel was drastically lower than that of conventional UO2 fuel.
