It is well known that the accumulation of platinum group metals decreases the discharging efficiency in a glass melter. It has been considered that conductive paths generated by the accumulation of platinum group metals
decreased the heat transfer efficiency. However, details are still unknown because the direct observation is nearly impossible due to the severe environment such as high temperature and high radiation dose. In this study, we evaluated the discharging efficiency by using DEM-MPS method, a Lagrangian-Lagrangian method. Through the numerical simulation, it was proved that the retention of solid particles occurred due to the fluid viscosity. We found out that the control of the fluid viscosity was of great importance to keep the discharging efficiency.
