Reaction of candidate neutron absorber materilas, such as rare earth oxide RE2O3 (RE: Sm, Eu, Gd) and mixed oxide containing rare earth element, with high-temperature steam was investigated for development of accident tolerant control rod for light water reactors. As a result, (RE,Zr)O2 and (RE,Hf)O2 solid solution revealed high thermochemical and dimensional stability up to 1200C at least.
