[1D17] R&D on Nitride Fuel Cycle for MA Transmutation to Enhance Safety and Economy
(7) Shearing experiments of simulated fuel pins containing (Dy,Zr)N pellets
Keywords:Minor actinide, Nitride fuel, Pyrochemical reprocessing, Fuel Pin shearing, Accelerator-driven system, Partitioning and transmutation
A T91 ferritic stainless steel (9Cr1Mo) cladding containing nitride fuel pellets and helium bonding has been a candidate of a MA transmutation fuel pin. In a pretreatment for a pyrochemical reprocessing of spent nitride fuels, a shearing of the fuel pins under Ar gas atmosphere has been proposed. In this study, SUS304 austenitic stainless steel claddings containing (Dy,Zr)N pellets were produced as simulated nitride fuel pins, and shearing experiments of the pins were performed changing a shearing width in a glove box under Ar gas atmosphere.
