[1I06] Heat Transfer Coefficient of Liquid Metal under Low Peclet Number Conditions
Keywords:Liquid metal, Heat transfer coefficient, Low Peclet number, Pipe flow, CFD analysis
Measured heat transfer coefficients of liquid metal by Johnson et al. are far below the theoretical value. Although Lubarsky-Kaufman proposed a correlation trusting with their result, another measured result by Skupinski et al. coincided with the theory. Therefore, many researchers including the above experimenters had a question about the low heat transfer coefficient. It has been clarified using the FLUENT analysis code which models the test section consisted of concentric pipes that the temperature difference between the heat transfer surface and bulk is overestimated in the experiment. A contact conductance which had the same order of the heat transfer coefficient was neglected in their evaluating method. As a result, the surface temperature was overestimated and the heat transfer coefficient was underestimated. CFD calculation results almost coincide with the theoretical equation.
