In this work, multifunctional gold nanoparticles have been applied as representative natural colloids to understand the impacts of colloid-mediated mobility of radionuclides in natural barriers. Three nanoparticles modified with the same polyethylene glycol (PEG) but of different gold-core sizes were studied. The differences in size have shown to impact the transport and deposition behavior of the gold nanoparticles as our experimental results show.
