[2I21] Simulation of steam explosions at the bottom of shallow water pool

*Kiyofumi Moriyama1, Masahiro Furuya2 (1. MasakiTech, 2. CRIEPI)

Keywords:severe accident, steam explosion, shallow water pool, impulse, kinetic energy, energy conversion ratio

Steam explosion experiments with a shallow water pool and a spreading melt layer on the pool bottom, e.g. PULiMS at KTH, were simulated by JASMINE code. A parametric study on the impact of the water pool geometry revealed that the validity of the kinetic energy estimation method assuming one dimensional movement of the water slug significantly depends on the water pool aspect ratio.
