Influence of nuclear transmutation and irradiation damages on electrical properties of chromel and alumel materials are being examined to investigate areas in a fusion reactor where thermocouples could be used for temperature measurement of liquid blanket systems. Nuclear transmutation is simulated by fabricating samples from small ingots which are obtained by melting commercial chromel and alumel wires with additional metal powders. Neutron irradiation effects are examined by ion beam irradiation on thin-film chromel-alumel thermocouple samples. Experimental methods to examine thermo-electromotive forces and electrical conductivities of the above samples and initial data are reported in this presentation.
