気液二相がある密閉容器にγ線を照射して,気相部ガスが水の放射線分解による水素発生に及ぼす影響を調べた。γ線照射下では試験水中にヨウ化物イオンが存在しない場合,気相部ガスを窒素およびアルゴンに置換することにより見かけのG値が低下することが分かった。
