Bentonite is an important element of engineered barriers implemented for geological disposal of high-level wastes. In this study, we present the structures of compacted bentonite in nm to sub-μm ranges, which can never be probed by X-ray diffraction, using synchrotron-based small-angle X-ray scattering.
