Geopolymers are considered as a confinement matrix for the treatment of various nuclear wastes. As they contain a large amount of water H2 gas production is an important factor to assess the storage safety. When H2 is produced by radiolysis, the phenomena usually considered are the energy absorption, and a complex system of chemical reactions. However, in some cases diffusion phenomenon could play an important role.

The present research shows experimental results of a strong decrease of the hydrogen production of water saturated geopolymers with their size (up to 200 times smaller than the literature value). Also, a predictive model based on gas diffusion and a pseudo first order reaction is described, in good agreement with the experimental results.
