[1I11] Development of a Neutron Resonance Transmission Analysis using a Laser Driven Neutron Source
(1)Applicability of Laser Driven Neutron Source for Neutron Resonance Transmission Analysis
Keywords:Nuclear nonproliferation, Neutron Resonance Transmission Analysis, Laser Driven Neutron Source
Some nondestructive analysis methods for validation of highly radioactive nuclear material such as spent fuels have been developed for safeguards. Nuclear Resonance Transmission Analysis (NRTA), particularly, can measure the density of each isotope of fissile and is considered to be a powerful method for analysis of solid materials like fuel debris. However, it is not easy to install into exist facilities due to a large Time-of-Flight (TOF) system required for the precise measurement. So, we have proposed a compact NRTA combined with Laser Driven Neutron Source (LDNS). TOF system would be shortened less than 5 m because of extremely short pulse width of LDNS. JAEA and Institute of Laser Engineering at Osaka university started a collaboration to demonstrate a short-range TOF measurement using LDNS as a fundamental study for future practical application.
