We will present a concept of a device used to magnetically separate radioactive cray (vermiculite) from a large amount of silt in Fukushima-prefecture for its volume reduction. Vermiculite particles included in the silt suspension are trapped on ferromagnetic wire mesh filters immersed in a high magnetic field up to 10 T and then stripped by ultrasonic waves propagating in collecting water filled in a processing tank. Using a superconducting solenoid magnet that has a room-temperature bore of 2 m in diameter and 5 m in height, we can expect to gain a processing capability of the silt with at least 40 m3/day.
