For decontamination of the radiation-tainted water in Fukushima, we have reported that the layered sodium titanate nanowires fabricated from titanium alloys under alkaline conditions exhibited remarkable Sr2+ adsorption properties. Here we report that the selectivity of Sr2+ uptake in the artificial seawater conditions is enhanced by use of Ba2+ ions as the intercalated exchangeable ions instead of Na+ ions. Furthermore, the nanowires are granulated to give granular adsorbents with around 1 mm size, which show high adsorption performance in the column operation.
