For the realization of a fusion reactor blanket, tritium permeation barriers have been studied mainly using ceramic coatings to suppress tritium leakage through structural materials. Among various coating candidate materials, yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) exhibits an excellent heat resistance and fracture toughness. In this study, fabrication of YSZ coatings by magnetron sputtering followed by structural analysis with deuterium permeation behavior is reported.
